Basic Blackjack Rules and Strategy

Anyone new to the game of Black Jack will appreciate a brief recap of the basic rules and strategy.

Blackjack is a game that pits one against the Dealer in a battle for the better score. In order to win, one must have a higher score than the Dealer, up to a maximum of 21 points. If either the Dealer, or the challenger, exceeds 21 points, the hand is a bust, which means an automatic loss.

Just like an automatic loss, there is also an automatic Win. On occasion, one wil be dealt a perfect score of 21 through the initial two card hand. This is called a natural (also called Blackjack, or 21). It is the best possible score. Not only do you automatically WIN, you will be paid 3:2 odds instead of the standard 1:1 payout for all other wins.

Most of the time, one will not land a Natural on the initial hand. One will need to build the hand to make sure it is competitive. There are three to four moves one can make to alter, or improve, the hand.

Hit : Add another card to your total for more points. Hit as often as you like, while still holding a total count under 22 points.

Stand : Whenever you decide that you are satisfied with your hand (sometimes this will happen without needing to hit), stand. Your score will be calculated and the winner will be declared.

Double : Beef up your bet by doubling it. You will receive one more card.

Surrender : Some versions allow you to surrender your first two cards. Half your bet will then be returned to you and the round will end.

The Truth About Winning at Blackjack

The numbers are growing on the amount of people these days who are getting hooked on playing blackjack. After all, it is considered to be one of the most prevalent, and well liked, games on the table floor. It is relatively easy to play, and with the correct strategy, a player can get an advantage in winning the game.

In order to win blackjack, players must get cards that have a total of 21 or closer to it. If the player gets a card taking the total points over 21, the hand is lost.

In winning black jack, there is only one concept that players must keep in mind. They should always remember to utilize the right strategy.

Strategies are considered a vital element in winning at black jack. The players capability to use a line of attack, and manipulate the game, is the basic skills that a player must learn in order to become a consistent winner.

So, for people who want to win at black jack, here are some ways to do it. These things will not guarantee winning, but using them will give one a good chance. Remember too, the Black jack game is neither won nor lost until the Player leaves the table.

1. Players should know when to hit or stand.
Statistics show that 3 out of 10 people who play black jack make hits or stands without knowing when to do it. Most simply rely on instinct, which can be a pretty factor in winning, but it is not always easy. So, it becomes a MUST that a player should know when to hit, or stand, just by looking at the cards already dealt FACE UP and the cards held FACE UP by the dealer. The idea of when to stand or hit is entirely dependent on the dealer. He is the only one at the table who must be beaten.

2. Players should always assume that the dealers downcard is 10 (or a Facecard valued at 10 points).
This is based on the theory that if the dealers downcard is a 10, and he DRAWS a 6, chances are he will get the face (or 10) card. If he draws a 7 card (or higher) , chances are he will either bust or the players probability of getting closer to 21 is higher.

In this manner, depending on what card the dealer draws, the player can decide whether to hit or stand. The player will then have greater chances of winning. Beating black jack is, indeed, dependent on the dealerscard. Leaving the table with more chips and cashing out means you have WON the Blackjack game.
